3 AI Job Search Tools Worth Knowing About

As a career coach, I’m biased when it comes to how much of a role AI plays in a job search. It definitely has a place but there’s also an important human element to the job search process, to interview prep, and to offer negotiation that no robot or app can beat me at as a veteran coach. But that doesn’t mean I don’t encourage the use of AI-based tools as well. In fact, below are three tools that are worth taking a look at or potentially sharing with someone in your network who is looking for their next role:

1.     Teal is a job application tool with some cool features. First off, it offers an easy way for you to track applications and monitor your progress against roles you’ve applied for. Teal lets users collect data for each job – the job description, company, salary, status, dates, interest level in the role, etc. I typically have clients do this on an excel spreadsheet but I love this feature as an alternative. Second, Teal helps you customize your resume for specific roles saving you a bunch of time manually doing the edits. Teal will score your current resume against jobs you save into the tracker giving you an indication of how well aligned you are for the role. You can then make changes and see your score/alignment for the role increase before you apply. They offer a free service or pay $29/month for their premium service.

2.     Yoodli is a communication coaching tool that’s helpful for job searching and beyond. It helps you role play and improve how you speak in interviews (it works for work presentations and other public speaking situations too). We often use a lot of ‘ums’ and ‘ahs’ or speak too quickly when we’re nervous. And interviews make most of us nervous. Yoodli is a great tool to help you with this. This tool not only lets you get in some solid practice for upcoming interviews but it provides coaching on your body language, your speed, and filler words. Their basic version is free or level-up to their pro version for $8/month.

3.     ChatGPT. No surprise this one is on my list. You may not know that “GPT” stands for “generative pre-training transformer.” That just means it’s a language model and framework for generative AI. Chat GPT is an app that uses GPT. So how can ChatGPT help job seekers? These are my favorite ways: 1) use it to research companies – use a prompt to ask the app questions about a company you’re interviewing with, 2) have it write you a cover letter template (less writing for you!), or 3) ask it to give you questions to help you prep for your upcoming interview. The basic service is free or you can pay $20/month for their pro service.

There are tons of other AI-based tools that job seekers can check out – a few others that I like but didn’t go into detail on are Cleve (for LinkedIn posts and other content creation), Final Round AI (for interview prep), and Payscale (for salary research). And I’d argue that my book, Made To Hire, although not AI-powered, will do more for you than any AI tool in terms of how it’ll change your approach to your job search.
